Our
craftsmen specialize in the Scandinavian full-scribe round-notch
wall system. This is a shrink-to-fit system which incorporates
factors such as log size, moisture content, log mass compression
and climate variations into the design.
While
many of our clients request full-scribe log homes, we offer chinked
and timber framed homes as well.
Chinked
wall styles are an option for those seeking a more rustic look.
In this system, a small space is allowed between the log walls.
After the house is erected onto its foundation, this air space is
filled-or "chinked" - with backer rod and a caulk/putty
like material.
Both
full-scribed and chinked homes can be paired with either
the round
notch, the scarfed saddle notch or dovetail joinery.
Timber
framed homes offer the look of a more contemporary exterior,
while
utilizing the beauty and strength of full-size wooden beams for
the interior. In this system, logs are traditionally hewn
into
rectangular timbers which are joined together to form the shell
of the home. Timber framed homes can also be constructed
with
round logs, echoing the appearance of the trees from which they
are crafted.
All
three of these building systems, full-scribed, chinked, and timber
framed, incorporate mortise and tenon joinery where ever design
dictates for maximum structural integrity.
